Get Back to Work!
We are in a space crunch right now, rehearsing once a week. I hope this resolves soon!
The work, however, spins on. We made some strong additions to Icarus. Amanda flies higher than before, stepping on our backs. She has not peaked yet, but climbs up shoulders as Icarus into the air.

I have a new vision of the opening sequence: Amanda walking on our backs as we roll across the floor. It has a certain regal quality, yet I don't know how it will look in practice. I want to emphasize the support that Daedalus gives to Icarus, but also the agency that Icarus takes when he starts flapping. He commands his fate, igniting his own feathers.
I like the Marriage Dance more and more. Alex and Amanda are opposed, yet connected; fierce, but concerned. They hide under the sheet at times, seeking shelter. One rolls up the other, who whips free. They are persistent!
Come see what you think at our free show at the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, March 23, 2011 at 6pm. If you like Icarus, take my repertory class at Dance Place and perform it with us. Repertory meets Wednesday evenings from 7:45pm to 9:30 starting May 4 and culminating at our Dance Place performance on Saturday July 9 at 8pm and Sunday July 10 at 7pm. The Washington DC/Philadelphia Exchange is the second half of Human Landscape Dance's partnership with Philly's Anne-Marie Mulgrew and Dancers Co. (The first half took place in May 2010 at Philadelphia's Painted Bride.)
